The year 2025 marked a period of significant change both globally and domestically. The inauguration of President Trump in the United States brought about intense shifts worldwide and within the country itself. In the healthcare industry, the suspension and repeal of Obamacare, coupled with U.S. government spending cuts—including a massive reduction of 10,000 FDA staff through DOGE—radically transformed the American healthcare system. The medical-related industries were also profoundly impacted, forcing a major reevaluation of traditional business structures. In Japan, the Liberal Democratic Party suffered major defeats in both House and Senate elections, becoming a minority ruling party. Simultaneously, the first female Prime Minister in Japanese history, Takaichi, formed a new administration. Concurrently, the LDP-Komeito coalition dissolved, creating an uncertain environment for future political and social conditions.Amidst this, while the 2026 national budget reached an unprecedented scale, national healthcare costs continued to rise unabated alongside accelerating population aging and declining birth rates. Medical institutions, including the Japan Hospital Association, warned that the healthcare system faced collapse due to deteriorating hospital management environments caused by soaring personnel costs from labor shortages and increased expenses for introducing and maintaining advanced medical equipment. They demanded a more than 10% increase in medical fees.In response, the government adjusted the medical fee revision, raising the base portion by 3.9%—the highest level since the 3.4% increase in fiscal 1996. However, this falls far short of the demands from the field.
To sustain Japan's healthcare system, further improvements in cost-effectiveness and enhancements in the quality of care, particularly for the elderly, are essential. New technologies and innovations with the potential to solve these problems are advancing daily, and their introduction into clinical settings is eagerly anticipated.Overseas, the development of medical devices using cutting-edge technology and improvements in treatment techniques continue to accelerate unabated, even within challenging economic environments. While various efforts are underway in Japan, the pace still lags significantly behind overseas developments. Consequently, a substantial gap exists, representing unmet needs.
Our company aims to meet these needs in Japan's healthcare field and realize better medical care by introducing the world's most advanced medical devices into Japan via the shortest and most optimal processes. Simultaneously, we will collaborate with domestic companies to develop new products and improve existing ones. The potential visible in today's market changes in the blink of an eye.
